Baseball was played by poor boys on the streets. Baseball has grown so much that is has become an obsession in the Dominican Republic. Baseball or “beisbol” was very big after the ten-year war (1868-1878) in Cuba. The first professional league was in 1890. It had two professional teams- Ozama and Nuevo Club. Dictator Rafael Leónidas Trujillo served as the republic's president built the first major baseball stadium.


II. Economic impact

A. Jobs: Players had the job to play, doctors, mangers, paramedics, people to sell the uniform to them, coach, assistance, accountants, coordinator of games, Director of Ticket Sales, broad cast, security, etc.

C. Tourism: Many people came to visit to watch their teams play. It brought much publicity to baseball.

Puerto Rico:


I. History:

Baseball was first introduced to Puerto Rico by a group of Cubans and Puerto Ricans who had learn the sport in the United States. The first two baseball clubs were the Almendares Baseball Club and the Borinquen Baseball Club. After the war, people began to play the game spreading across the island and it was taught in school. Almost every torn had a team which would play on Sundays and in Holidays.


II. Economic impact

A. Jobs: Players had the job to play, doctors, mangers, paramedics, people to sell the uniform to them, coach, assistance, accountants, coordinator of games, Director of Ticket Sales, broad cast, security, etc.

The Cuban league was on of the longest lasting professional team. Game was played on Sundays and was head by a picnic and followed by a dance. In 1946, a modern stadium opened in Havana Gran Stadium. Baseball became a symbol of freedom and equality to the Cuban people.

The city was fascinated with the new sport. Alfredo Mosquera's father, the owner of Caracas Beer Company, built the first baseball stadium. The game was very popular by the turn of the century.

Baseball in Mexico was traced back to the 1840's. Mexicans began playing baseball in the 1870's.the first organized Mexican league was formed in 1925, by Jorge Pasquel. American soldiers introduce the game to the Mexicans during the Mexican war.
