1. Introduction

1.1 Background

We all live in an industrial world. Industrialization is spreading continuously everywhere. The impact of industrialization has created many harmful results. The aim of this report is to discuss the “disposing of electronic garbage and its after math” (Wooddell, 2010)

1.2 Objectives

The first objective of this report is to identify the electronic garbage and it’s potential. The second objective that this report will cover is the Current methods of disposing electronic garbage and its environmental impacts. The final objective which will be brought to this report is environmentally friendly methods of disposing electronic garage, its success rate and future innovations.

1.3 Scope

In this report, I focus on

2. Procedure

Various assets from the web and books were utilized including out of spotlight within my report, the case and preference and drawback were picked in light of the fact that it is a solid confirmation to demonstrate my report.

3. Analysis of Findings

Objective 1: Identifying electronic garbage and it’s potential.

Total disposes of electronic and micro electronic materials after the utilization of various electronic and technical activities known as electronic garbage. E-waste is a form of solid waste which is generated from used or obsolete electronic devices. Electronic garbage may be discarded computers, electronic equipment, used mobile phones, television sets, used refrigerators, printing materials, domestic cooking equipment, used air conditioners etc.(Ban,2002)

Usually the people store such electronic waste in a corner of their house gardens. They remain in those places for a long period. This situation is domestically common in urban areas. Most of the office banks and other public institutions dispose heavier load of electronic waste daily. They usually dispose them in garbage bins or hard garbage containers which are cleaned by local government authorities. Finally these wastes are added to common garbage dump in the nearby areas. In addition to that the cell batteries, printing cartridges, dry cell batteries are also added to the environment irregularly. Most of the developing countries don’t have a proper method of disposing them. Many people forget these waste after dumping them anywhere. .(Ban,2002)

Is the electric waste inactive in open environment? No. The remained chemical parts of them react with impact of temperature, rainfall, oxygen and other various gases. They release poisonous gases to the environment. During the rain their chemical particles are washed away and pollute the drainage system of the locality. (Grossman, 2006)

Objective 2: Current methods of disposing electronic garbage and its environmental impacts.

At present there are number of current methods of disposing electronic garbage can be seen in the world. Collecting the electronic garbage and disposing them in to open environment is one method. This is seen in developing countries such as Sri Lanka, India, and Pakistan etc. Bloemendhal in Colombo and Mahaiyawa in Kandy are main garbage dumping areas that can be seen in Sri Lanka. At present some people collect electric garbage with other waste and set fire. It causes for issuing of Methane, Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Carbon Monoxide (CO) and other various poisonous gasses. The electronic garbage can be burry in the ground. This is done in rural areas. Some people burry altogether in one pit. But it may cause for destroy of fertility of soil. Another current is storing in domestic places. This condition is more common domestically. Some people store electric waste materials in certain places for a longer period of time. As an example storing broken used computers, television sets, cooking equipment inside the home. Storing such materials is not identified by such people. (Chris, 2008)

Most of the developed countries try to dispose them in developing countries. There are industrial and economic policies have been adjusted to follow methods. For an example Japan resell all the machineries to other countries after use of 3 year period. 99% the electronic waste materials are not decayed. Therefore limited pure environment should be protected from them. (Barnes, 2007).

Electronic waste in developed countries

Developed countries dispose a huge electronic waste annually. But they limit the usage age and try to market those used materials to developing countries. Accordingly they avoid loading of wasting materials. But they contribute highly for producing electric waste. The carbon emission hour takes higher rate in the industrialized countries. (Chris, 2008)

Electronic wastage in developing countries.

Most of the developing countries import the used electronic equipment as they are cheap in the world market. They utilize those equipment as re-conditioned machineries. But after several years those equipment have to be removed. Finally they are added domestic or public garbage.

The electronic waste is added to manufacturing process. At the manufacturing and testing stages of them a considerable electronic waste is released. Example is Silicon Valley in America. Dispose many tons of Electronic waste. (Grossman, 2006)

A perfect research regarding the remaining electronic waste has not been held still. Therefore nobody can estimate about the electronic and its possible harm correctly. We all are discussing only about the electronic waste loaded which are identified individually. This report will attempt to emphasis the public awareness regarding this method.

Impacts of the disposing of electronic garbage

Kids are passing on. Why? Traded off invulnerable frameworks and substantial metal harming from a wild and uncontrolled reusing process that puts corrosive and mercury into the supper plates of youngsters. Alongside this, the dirt, air and water substance of destructive materials is amazingly high in the territories where this electronic waste is foreign made. The two real resultants of this ecological pollution appears in health and economic concerns.. These two issues additionally are specifically associated, particularly in creating parts of the world. These materials, when discarded dishonorably, wind up in water supplies, or copied, making an inexorable utilization that damages the individuals who are lamentable to live in vicinity to these conditions. The illegal businesses of the ranges extricate the important materials from the destroyed machines and contraptions, and after that move ahead to blaze the materials (happening in spots like India and China with high-populaces) which winds up creating infection to large portions of the blameless occupants who don't take part in these sorts of practices. Underground market slave work is utilized to concentrate these substances and after that those laborers are the ones who are left to languish over the barbarism of the individuals who drive them to use E-waste to the impediment of their own well-being. This is just a late issue, in the same way as expressed above, on the grounds that the improvement of these particular sorts of things just goes once more to around 40 years, with every year exhibiting the exponentially helpful headway of mechanical generation. (Grossman, 2006)

Objective 3: Environment friendly methods of disposing electronic garbage its success rate and future innovations.

The most appropriate suitable and easier method is to following 3R system.

  1. Recycling

Most of the electronic garbage can be recycled. Manufacturing companies should design their productions as to be recycled several times after use. Such companies should follow a proper methodology to repurchase such materials when customer return after use. (Natural resources defense council, 2010)

  1. Reduce

As environment friendly human beings we all should try to use only essential electronic materials. The usable machineries to ease our activities to be limited. The people need to attitudinally change. Their behavior should be to do some simple manual activities by themselves without machineries. It is better for the health of the people also. Accordingly if the main things deeply a large number of unnecessary equipment can be removed. (Natural resources defense council, 2010)

  1. Reuse

The electronic equipment manufacturing institutions should introduce reusable productions. The durability and working life should be extended. One certain device should be reuse again and again after small service of it. Thus the disposing speed can be reduced. (Natural resources defense council, 2010)

Success rate of environmentally methods of disposing of electronic garbage.

Future Innovations

The manufacturing companies can follow repurchasing methods after selling. The customer also should have discount for returning production to companies. For an example there should be 10% discount for an old CFL bulb. It is a practical and suitable method to reduce the production of electronic garbage. At present some companies already follow these systems. People should follow eco disposal systems. Some destroyable waste should be buried in deeper pits properly. For an example cell phone batteries, mercury parts and silicon containing devices should be buried at least 12 feet below. The copper, plastic and zinc particles should be separated and return back for recycling. Some non-usable plastic containers can be used for decoration purposes such as flower vases, creative decorations for tables etc. An example is repurposing the i mac G4 in to a table lamp. (Victorgrigas, 2010)
