Introduction

In this assignment I have been asked to give recommendation for Microsoft exchange server 2010 network environment supporting 550 local client workstations and 50 mobile laptops users I will be giving recommendations for creating public folders and database design I will explain the process for deploying a new version if exchange I will also give recommendations for the configuration available to a small and large network.

Recommendations for creating public folders and database

When installing exchange the first thing to thinks about is not to install it on the same server as you domain and active directory there are many issues when doing this like active directory split permissions are not supported. (Microsoft. 2014).

The main purpose for creating public folders Is for the collection organization and sharing of the information with the users within the organisation the admin has access to the public folder management console which allows access the folder hierarchy this includes the ability to create new folders and it will replicas on different servers remove folders and mail enable folders no access is available to the content this is for the sole purpose of the management of the folders. The database management section allows you to create new public folder database once the database is set up you can update their settings for example with the 550 clients and the 50 mobile users you could set the storage limit according for each folder I recommend a replication schedules should be set up at the with regular intervals to insure a backup of the public folder.( danscourses. 2011). (TrainSignal. 2013).

Managing public folder settings allows you to set the users permissions for their folders and sub folders I believe this is very important as its giving users permission to view or view and contribute content to the folders this is very important factor when setting up permissions as you don’t want to let anyone make changes to the folder or add and edit content with in the folders. (TrainSignal. 2013).

The design of the hierarchical structure is something that you will want to sit down and think about for example you can have the design from the location, department, team and project all designs can be different its completely up to you how you design it for my recommendation for this will start of as location then department to do this in the public folder management console once you have your database you can create a new folder the first folders that you should create are the top level folders to create the sub folders open the top level folder and open it then create new folder. So the design of the structure is whatever you want it to be I would advise you to create the structure so it resembles the business this allows you to maintain your public and private folders as they will be in more of a type that will be easily maintainable .( danscourses. 2011). (TrainSignal. 2013).

Replication

The importance of replication is vital for an optimal server in a exchanger server environment epically with more clients the replication process is like a backup it is a set of technologies that allows you to copy data and data base objects from one exchange server to another. Using replication you can distribute data to different locations and to remote or mobile users over a local or wide area network Replication is used in a server to server environment typically using high throughput including improving scalability and availability intergraded data from multiple sites is a very good thing about replication as you can replicate to a backup of all sites to many different places instead of keeping them all in one place

There are two types of public information that will need replicating the first is the Hierarchy and content tis includes the properties of the folders as well as the relevant information to the organisation and the public folders which typically have the copy of hierarchy information for the folders the replicated information can be used to identify the permissions over the folders this helps identify which server is responsible for holding the content of the folder in the public tree (Microsoft. 2014).

Process for Deployment of a New Version of Exchange

Before proceeding with the deployment of the new version of exchange you must take some time to review your current infrastructure and make any changes that are necessary the following arrears you want to review are domain and forest function levels and the active directory forests this preparation will insure a successful deployment. (joal Stidley 2011).

The process of deploying a new version of exchange is a vital step in updating your server because within each new version of exchange there are new key features that enhances the capabilities of the exchange server. The requirements for deploying the new version of exchange are to make sure that all windows updates have been installed the server needs to be part of a domain with a static IP address the deployment software will need to be installed this includes filter packs Microsoft Unified Communications Managed when deploying the new version of exchange server the power shell will install prerequisite this will be done by the new version of exchange which will need to be entered into power shell command line when prompted. The next step in the deploying process is linked with the installation of the Microsoft unified communications managed and installing the filter packs along with the services packs the new version will commence and start installing this is a straight forward process. joal Stidley (2011).

As technology involves a new way of deploying exchange is available a hybrid deployment offers organizations to be able to extend the feature-rich experiences and admin control they have with their on-site Microsoft exchange server to the cloud. A hybrid deployment allows a seamless look between an on-premises exchange server and exchange online (Microsoft. (2014).

Recommendations for Deploying a Workable Exchange Solution in organizations

When deploying a workable exchange the first thing you need to consider is to verifier your domain and forest function levels to deploy exchange you need to have the forest function level of windows server 2003 which will require the same for the domains to have the same function level the reason for this is because the when the install is started the following error message appears (Organization Prerequisites Failed)

The next thing you must do is to prepare the AD active directory so it knows that your that an exchange server will be running this is done by using the command prompt and entering the /PreapearSchema command the AD uses the schema to define sets of instructions which defines the AD and any objects( joal Stidley (2011).( Microsoft. (2009)

Deploying a workable exchange solution depends on the needs and requirements which vary from organisation to organisation the areas that need to be considered when deploying include the type scale and nature of the organisation and the clients associated with the server. The deployable exchange solution should be able to cater for the availability to make sure that the exchange solution remains available in adverse conditions. The deployed exchange solution should have features of being able to quickly recovered from minor issues or glitches, exploiting the principle of simplified local recovery

Small companies

A small business with 50-100 clients can take advantage of using a single where the client access server (CAS), hub transport server (HT) and the mailbox server roles are all on one server this would be sufficient to deploy a workable exchange solution hierarchical folder designs can still be used but they may need modifying before being assigned

Large companies

A large business from 150>2000 clients would need a different solution to cater for the amount of clients the number of server may vary as well you may want split the CAS role and the HT role into separate servers and the mailbox servers would have redundancy set up on the mailbox a hierarchical folder structure would decently need design and replication to multiply sites should be used at the higher end of the client end. Rand Morimoto. (2009).

Conclusion

In conclusion I have found that Exchange Server 2010 is one of the biggest corporate emailing and calendaring server deployed within organizations and that different configurations of infrastructure are used in such a way that the exchange server stay available and recovers quickly in bad conditions are used depending on the size of the business it allows an efficient management and access to the shared information with the use of public and private folders and database providing the ability to cater for the client in the best way . Deploying an exchange server solution depends solely on the nature of and scale of its business.

Self-reflection

In reflection I think I would of done this assignment a bit different I would off looked more closely at public and privet folders and their databases and looked at how they worked under different circumstances I would also looked at the different possibilities of deploying exchange server i think I would set myself a timeframe to do this at the begging if I were to do this assignment again I think I will do this in all my assignment making sure I have certain bits done by a certain time
